Every city in the industrialized world has sanitation infrastructure which requires regular maintenance and upgrade. There are always new construction projects underway and old infrastructure eventually needs repair and replacing. Increasingly sewer lines are becoming inaccessible due to transportation infrastructure expansion, building development and other changes in the urban environment. In addition, access points are often in residential backyards, in the middle of intersections, or other inconvenient locations. Most sanitary pipe inspections are carried out using conventional crawler systems with 1,500ft travel capability and providing video data only. PipeEye’s unique inspection system can crawl, or float, as far as 6,000ft through mainline sewer lines while providing both video and sonar data. The net result is a significant reduction in costs and inconvenience associated with deployment time and traffic disruption. The sonar feature is particularly useful in sanitary lines since CCTV cameras cannot collect useful video through murky water. Sonar is quickly evolving as a useful sewer inspection tool providing the capability to provide quantitative data in submerged, poor visibility environments. |
